Senior Ben Fahnestock won the 2023 regional cross country championship in Troy, Ohio this past Saturday.
Ben competed in the division II race besting a field of over 100 runners and 15 teams in the southwest region of Ohio with a winning time of 16:15. Ben now gets to compete in the state championship race at Fortress Obetz on Saturday, November 4th a12:45 p.m. This will be Ben's 4th trip to Columbus to complete in a state championship.
This Saturday will be his 3rd cross country championship along with a 2022 trip for track. Good luck Ben!
Exciting finish headlines boys' Division II race
Mariemont senior Ben Fahnestock was determined to improve after finishing in fourth place at last week's district meet. Fahnestock, who was with the lead pack for the whole race, seized the individual title by passing Madeira's J.T. Hamstra in the final meters to win in a time of 16:14.90.
"I tried to push as hard as I could and I got through, so I'm just happy with that," Fahnestock said.
Mariemont's Ben Fahnestock is one of six individual boys in Division II that will represent Cincinnati at next week's state cross country meet in Columbus.

His win led the way for a deluge of Cincinnati-area schools to qualify for the state meet. Cincinnati claimed 11 of the top 16 spots, headlined by three runners from Madeira and two each from Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy and Indian Hill. The Mustangs won their first team title since 2017 by one point over Carroll, while CHCA took fourth place in the team standings to qualify for state.
