Mariemont boys headed to OHSAA state tournament for seventh time
The Ohio High School Athletic Association started sponsoring lacrosse in 2017. From then until last season, the Mariemont Warriors made every single boys lacrosse state tournament. Last season, Bellbrook ended their streak.
The Warriors (15-3) are right back at it in 2025. They're once again regional champions and headed to the state tournament after a 14-3 win over Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy (9-6) in the regional final Thursday night.
On the other side of the bracket, Wooster (18-2) will face off against Rocky River (20-1). The winner of that game will play either Mariemont or Bishop Watterson in the state title match.
Warriors back on top
Mariemont sophomore R.J. Naticchioni said losing the regional championship and missing out on the state tournament last season for the first time since 2017 lit a fire under the Warriors.
"Last year really hurt us," Naticchioni said. "It was a really upsetting loss for everybody, from the fans and parents to players and coaches. It gave us a lot of motivation, and it's part of the reason we're here today."
Junior Vince Fiorina said the team's focus and intensity are as good as he's seen in his time with the Warriors. The tone in practice has been intense. During film study, everyone's locked in like they're being shown the answers for a final exam. Everyone has bought in.
"The intensity has been through the roof," Mariemont head coach Steve Peterson said. "They're playing like a championship team. I knew they would."
