The Mariemont High School Athletic Department recently celebrated another successful boys lacrosse season, highlighted by a return trip to the state semifinal game against Bishop Watterson. While the outcome of that contest was not what we had hoped for, the Warriors finished with an impressive 12-7 record. Season highlights included earning the No. 1 seed in Region 8, capturing the Regional Championship with a 17-6 victory over Bishop Fenwick, and recording two wins over rival Indian Hill.
During spring break, Head Coach Steve Peterson suffered an injury that prevented him from continuing his coaching duties. His son, Reed Peterson, stepped in to lead the Warriors for the final 16 games of the season. The Mariemont Athletic Department is deeply grateful for Reed's willingness to assume this role and provide stability, continuity, and leadership during a challenging time for the program.
Following the season, Coach Steve Peterson submitted his resignation as head coach of the Mariemont Boys Lacrosse Program. Coach Peterson played an instrumental role in establishing lacrosse as a school-sponsored sport at Mariemont High School in 2003 and became the program's head coach in 2011.
Over his tenure, Coach Peterson compiled an outstanding 203-80 record and led the Warriors to five state championships across both the OHSLA and OHSAA eras. Prior to his involvement at Mariemont, he helped introduce and grow the sport of lacrosse through the Terrace Park Recreation Association's Bulldog Lacrosse Program. Through his dedication and vision, Coach Peterson coached and mentored generations of future Warriors while building one of Ohio's most respected lacrosse programs.
In recognition of his extraordinary contributions to Mariemont athletics, Coach Peterson will be inducted into the Doc Kusel Hall of Fame on August 28. The Athletic Department will also work with community partners to celebrate Coach Peterson's legacy and lasting impact on the Mariemont lacrosse community.
The Mariemont Athletic Department is now accepting applications for the position of Head Boys Lacrosse Coach. We are committed to conducting a thorough and comprehensive search process, with the goal of having a new coach selected and in place by August 2026.
